TLC Wins 2018 Regional Contractor of the Year Award

TLC was thrilled to recently be awarded the 2018 Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) award by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for their work on a historic St. Paul home remodel on Portland Ave. TLC was recognized in the Kitchens $100,000 – $150,00 category for the regional award, and David Heide Design Studio designed the project. The Twin Cities remodeling project also received the 2017 Minnesota CotY award as well as awards in the Residential Bath Remodel over $75,000 category and the Residential Historical Home Remodeling over $250,000 category late last fall.

The Portland Ave. historic home renovation worked to update a Prairie School home with modern amenities and safety features, while still preserving the integrity of the house’s history. The custom remodeling project covered much of the home, from updating electrical, plumbing and air conditioning to correcting structural issues. TLC and David Heide Design Studio reworked the master suite, a powder room and the basement in addition to the kitchen area.

The work done to the kitchen is what earned TLC recognition in the highly competitive CotY kitchen remodeling category. The TLC team and David Heide Design Studio kept the kitchen’s footprint the same, but added modern amenities that were still in line with the classic architectural features of the 1915 home.

Featuring stunning red birch cabinetry and woodwork, heated slate tile floors, a rustic tile backsplash and granite countertops, the kitchen renovation strikes the perfect blend of modern conveniences with traditional Prairie School design.

Receiving the nine-state North Central regional award now qualifies the remodel as a finalist for National CotY honors. Over 400 projects were submitted to the NARI from eight regions. NARI judges evaluate projects on the criteria of functionality, problem solving, overall aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty, as well as entry presentation. The National CotY will be announced in Charlotte, N.C. in April.
